What is PT-141?

PT-141, or bremelanotide, is a cyclic heptapeptide derived from Melanotan II that acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, principally MC3 and MC4, in the central nervous system. It is licensed in the United States (as Vyleesi) for a specific indication and is not licensed in the UK or EU. Supplied here at 99%+ HPLC purity in a 10 mg sealed vial for laboratory research.

What the research covers

PT-141 has been through controlled human trials in its licensed indication, which report central rather than vascular action and adverse effects including nausea, flushing and transient blood-pressure increases. Preclinical work examines melanocortin signalling more broadly. It is the melanocortin agonist with the most human data.

Quality and testing

The certificate of analysis for PT-141 is published on our certificates page and linked above. It is a third-party laboratory report (Finnrick Analytics / Krause Analytical, Austin, Texas) on a finished vial submitted by our supplier, reporting identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC; no lot number is printed on this report, so it cannot be matched to a specific lot, with a purity result of 99.94%. ALTA's own independent test of a lot we hold is pending and will be published when it arrives. Note: Supplier-provided report; no lot number is printed on it, so it cannot be matched to a vial label. Reconstitution and handling

PT-141 arrives as a lyophilised cake under an aluminium crimp seal. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so that condensation does not form on the powder. Swab the stopper with an alcohol swab, draw the chosen volume of bacteriostatic water (our bacteriostatic water guide explains why it is used rather than sterile water) with a sterile syringe, and add it slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder. Swirl gently until clear; never shake, which can denature the peptide. Label the vial with the date and concentration. Lot traceability

Every PT-141 vial carries a printed lot number and expiry.
