What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound 157) is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide whose sequence is a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It was isolated and characterised by a research group at the University of Zagreb in the early 1990s and has since become the most-studied of the so-called healing peptides, with several hundred published animal studies. Unusually for a peptide, it is stable in acidic conditions, which is why both injectable and oral preparations appear in the literature.

Every BPC-157 vial sold here is lyophilised powder at a specified purity of at least 99% by HPLC, sealed under nitrogen in a 2 mL glass vial, with the lot number on the label and the certificate for that lot published on our certificates page.

What the research covers

The BPC-157 literature is broad but almost entirely preclinical. In rodent models the peptide has been reported to accelerate healing of transected Achilles tendon, medial collateral ligament and skeletal muscle; to protect the stomach lining against NSAID and alcohol injury; to promote angiogenesis at wound sites through VEGF and nitric-oxide pathways; and to influence gut-brain signalling through dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Most of this work comes from a single laboratory (Sikiric and colleagues), which is a limitation worth knowing about. Human data is limited to small uncontrolled reports; no randomised controlled trial in people has been published, and no regulator has licensed it.

In 2023 the US FDA placed BPC-157 in its category of substances that may present significant safety risks in compounding, citing the absence of human safety data rather than evidence of harm. The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits it under S0 (non-approved substances).

BPC-157 and TB-500

The two peptides are frequently studied together because they act through different mechanisms: BPC-157 on growth-factor signalling and angiogenesis at the injury site, TB-500 (thymosin beta-4 fragment) on actin regulation and cell migration. Reconstitution and handling

BPC-157 arrives as a lyophilised cake under an aluminium crimp seal. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening so that condensation does not form on the powder. Swab the stopper with an alcohol swab, draw the chosen volume of bacteriostatic water with a sterile syringe, and add it slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder. Swirl gently until clear; never shake, which can denature the peptide. Label the vial with the date and concentration. Lot traceability

Every BPC-157 vial carries a printed lot number and expiry.
